These shoes are fastened to a utility pole. Someone has put ears of corn in them to feed the local squirrels. I hope the used foot wear will not have a effect on the taste of the kernals! You can see this cleaver idea along State Route 29 in New Knoxville in southern Auglaize County.

My son turned 11 on the 4th of July while we were vacationing in Delaware and in these pictures I took of a few of the original buildings in Dover. We were awaiting to see their fireworks display. As you can see theres a nice crowd.

The first downtown area was "The Green", laid out in 1722 in accordance with the orders of William Penn in 1683. Center of life for the County Seat and State Capital, it was the site of early fairs and markets. Craftsmen and artisans such as cabinet makers, shoemakers, carpenters, tailors, and hatters shared the historic Green with government officials and residents, as well as several inns and taverns. At one of these inns, "The Golden Fleece Tavern", Delaware ratified the United States Constitution on December 7, 1787, becoming the FIRST STATE to do so.

The mercantile activities of the City shifted several blocks north to Loockerman Street as Dover began to grow after the Civil War. Many buildings on this street retain their turn-of-the-century facades. A stroll down this street reveals architectural details from throughout the Victorian era as well as more contemporary Art Deco and Post Modern.

Dover has two distinct historic areas to share with you ... one Colonial and one Victorian. You are invited to visit these areas as you enjoy our flowers, grand shade trees and brick walks. Throughout our downtown are specialty shops, neighborhood stores, restaurants and very friendly people.
