I have had many great dogs over my life. I train at Greenville Area Dog Club. I have trained handicapped service dogs, therapy dogs, search and rescue dogs and donated them. But because of my close prolonged contact with my own, Mine have always been my highest achievers.
With the poor economy, and dearth of jobs, rising vet bills, I can no longer commit to owning another dog. So Tuck is my last dog. And I'm enjoying him.
Tuck is a testament to our teamwork... Tuck is a Search and Rescue dog. I am a SAR TECH II (National Association of Search and Rescue) credentialed.
Tuck had an accident at 4 months old, nearly taking his life , resulting in prolonged rehabilitation. During his convalesence, he learned over 300 tricks in order to keep his mind busy, while his body was forced to stay quiet.
So we put those tricks to work entertaining in Nursing homes, Veteran's centers, in therapy work, various requested appearances, and connecting to youth in his service as a therapy dog.
In addition to Tuck's work in Search and Rescue, and therapy, he is also an obedience competition dog, tracking dog, and a Show dog.
Olfaction amazes me. It's one of the least studied senses and most taken for granted. I have studied olfaction in depth, and love to share my knowledge in schools, and what better way to demonstrate than through the nose of a dog?
