Ohhh.. Since some of you wonderful folks are posting some Holiday Cheer. I thought I would throw my 2 cents in.
The holidays are always a wonderful time for our family. Now I just cook for my immediate family. WHY you ask? Well 10 years ago or so I bought this huge turkey 24 lbs or so and invited my hubby's entire family along with some of my own. I cooked for nearly a week straight.. cakes , pies , cookies , turkey with all the trimmings.
NO ONE SHOWED UP!
That didnt stop me. Of course we ate leftovers for along long time. ( 2 weeks is a long time around here to eat leftovers ) LOL...
Now I reserve the Holidays for God as well as my children & grandson / sons.
On Thanksgiving eve I pack up my kids and go to the nearest pantry to cook and serve the multitude of homeless folks who are in need. We have done this for many years going back to 1989. My oldest son started doing this with me when he was only 2.
Allthough my kids try each year to somehow get out of this event. Each year I manage to get them all to come help. I think perhaps this is why the Holidays mean so much to them.
This year I am doing something a bit different. Instead of going to the local pantry just once during the holidays, I am stretching out over 2 days to a couple of different towns. My Local pantry on Thanksgiving Eve as well as a bigger cities pantry on Thanksgiving Day. As well as Christmas Eve and Christmas Morning at each town.
The needs for the homeless and needy folks have grown to an all time high around here. I have and will continue to give as much as I possibly can to them. I feel a great sence of LOVE when I do these things. And I often find myself throughout the year making trips to the pantry to give such items as clothing , food and or the extra needed helping hand. I honestly believe that someday this will all be returned to me & my children. Maybe not on this earth , but perhaps in a greater surrounding.
Each year we recieve so much as a family and full of blessings. The need to GIVE is much more intense than ever before.
So all those old coats you have stored away for 10 years or more, All those old mix matched sox you have in that box or drawer, All those old hippy shirts you havent worn in 20 or more years, All those canned good you havent looked at all year long, Anything you can possibly give... GIVE!
Even if it's just a helping hand so that the folks who are serving at the pantry's can take a break from serving. That is a HUGE effort and much appriciated by many!
I assure you , you wont miss those things that you have choosen to give and your heart will feel such Joy!
I hope you all have a very blessed and joyous Holiday season in all you do.
PLEASE DONT FORGET ABOUT THOSE LESS FORTUNATE!
Take Care & God Bless!

judyann, 4 days ago | FlagWhat great ideas for everyone! Meshelle! Your heart feels so much fuller when you decide to share. I've learned this over the years. And really isn't that what the season is all about? Teaching others, especially
the young is a wonderful way to show them what CHRISTmas is all about!! Great picture too!!
moparman330, 2 weeks ago | FlagGREAT You have a very BIG HEART and I am SO GLAD TO HAVE YOU AS A FRIEND THANK YOU.
maryshuman, 2 weeks ago | FlagAwesome Meshelle. What a wonderful thing to do!! You will be richly rewarded in heaven!!! You are right, there is a lot we can do to help others and it need not be costly. Donating things you no longer need or use, helping to feed the hungry whether it be at a soup kitchen, rainbow table or donating food to a local pantry or church to be distribute
d to those in need. Our church is collecting food items and money to make up Thanksgivi ng baskets for families in our community. After the baskets are made up, they are hand delivered by our youth group. Yes, helping others brings a sense of joy. Cheerful giving. That is how Jesus wants us to do things. God bless you and I know you will have an amazing Thanksgivi
ng and Christmas! ~Mary
