Thanksgiving & Christmas!!!

Seasons Greetings are upon us!!!  In just 23 short days it will be Thanks giving.  I love this time of year.  Seems like families are closer.   Hoping this year will be a memorable one.   My family has grown in size over the years, so much so I can't fit them all in my house.   I look forward to cooking a large Turkey and all the good stuff.   When I was small, we would always stand at the top of the stairs and listen to Santa ruffling all the presents under the tree.  Somehow Mr. and Mrs Santa knew we weren't in bed!!!  The memories of the cooking smells, christmas carols, people talking and laughing, the decorations, snow on the ground, fire in the fireplace,  and christmas lights. Our family always read the christmas story from the Bible , and Twas the Night Before Christmas,  Now, it's fun to watch my grandkids eyes light up with excitement!   Anybody have a great memory to share???   Happy Holidays!!! :)

  • What a great blog, Magster!  I remember a time when I was probably about 6 or 7. We were a poor family, but not because my Dad didn't try!  It was Christmas eve and my birthday.  I remember hoping all day someone would remember it was my birthday, but with the usual franticness of the holiday no one had. My Dad got home from work and it wasn't long befor ehe said he was gonna go get us a Christmas tree!  He came over to me and patted me on the head and said, "You wanna go with me, Squirt!". "Since it's your birthday, you can pick the tree!".  I don't think I was ever or have been so excited!  So I got my coat on and we got into the old Apache truck and drove to Couch's in Hamilton where I picked the tree. It was the best birthday I have ever had. I always wondered when I was a kid, why we never took a vacation like most families. I was grown and married for a few years with my own children when Mom told me we never took a vacation because Dad would save his vacation pay to buy our Christmas.  My Dad loved his 8 children more than anything in life! I miss him so.

  •  I see the commercials on TV have skipped right over Thanksgiving again and have went to Christmas..hate that..

I love being together with my family for both Thanksgiving and Christmas. Both my parents are gone now but it is good to get with my siblings and their families.

I will make up baskets of fruit and baked goods and give to the elderly that live alone in my community for Christmas. Been doing that for a number of years now. It's my way of saying you are loved.

Hope everyone here has a Blessed Thankgiving and Christmas...

  • We always loved Christmas time too. We started a Christmas tradition many years ago while living in California of having a Christmas party just before and serve Mexican favorites. Now we have moved back here and our first Christmas party we served Mexican. Several people wanted to decline but came anyway and later we heard they truely enjoyed it. Last year we set the date and said we were going to serve turkey as a joke and you would not believe the disappointment until we said "gotcha". So now I guess we are doomed to follow our tradition.   And Happy Holidays to you and yours
