Description:

The Ohio Department of Natural Resources, in conjunction with Wright Patterson Air Force Base burnt a 25 acre section of Huffman Prairie Tuesday in an attempt to preserve the prairie's ecosystem.

Experts say fires are natural in praries and necessary to maintain the prairie system. Without fires brush and trees will take over the grasses and certain species won't be able to survive.

That's why each year ODNR and WPAFB burn a quarter of the 109 acre Huffman Praire.
